FIRST LOOK – 13 FISHING CONTINUES TO REVOLUTIONIZE THE FISHING INDUSTRY WITH THIS NEW AND IMPROVED REEL

2019 has set off on a fast track to continue the technology impact on the fishing industry. 13 Fishing is setting that example with a new twist on one of its more popular and cost-effective working horses in their line by introducing the Inception Z Sport.

The Inception was first introduced in the spring of 2016 and has been one of the most popular reels. Just head over to Tackle Warehouse and take a look for yourself and you will see just how popular this reel has been. Now just three years later the Inception Z Sport will make its introduction at the Bassmaster Classic March 2019 in Knoxville TN. This reel is sure to be a hit and highly popular with advanced features, great price and hot new green color. The price of the reel is set at $150.

See the integrated hook keeper built in above the line guide.

This reel is bridging the gap between the Inception and the Concept Z by utilizing the “Concept Zero Bearings (CZB). If you haven’t had a chance to get your hands on the Concept Z or see the remarkable casting distance you need to check that out. Now imagine the workhorse Inception with addition of the CZB technology and you have a power and distance casting reel that won’t break the bank. I’m also really excited about the addition of the new hook keeper integrated into the reel itself.

Check out the pictures and description of this reel from 13 Fishing and let me know what you think of this new reel. I will be at the Bassmaster Classic eagerly waiting its release, will you.

Let me know below!

FIRST LOOK-LIVE TARGET IS SURE TO MAKE SOME COMMOTION WITH THIS NEW LURE FOR 2019! – Check out the Commotion Shad

Live Target is continuing to develop ground breaking lures that are sure to catch some of the biggest bass with life like profiles. The Commotion Shad brings a new level of flash to the top water fishing world.

Description – This life-like hollow body bait generates a tremendous splash and noise that is inviting to surface feeding Bass and Northern Pike. With its realistic profile and attention to detail, this bait replicates a juvenile Shad with remarkable accuracy. The custom extra sharp wide gap double hook was designed specifically to maximize hookups. The rear-spinning blade is custom designed to generate powerful splashing, a broad bubble trail and a deep penetrating “blooping” sound that will call fish in from a distance. Courtesy of livetargetlures.com

The best part about the Commotion Shad is the do-nothing approach to fishing. Just cast and retrieve and let that Colorado blade do the work for you. Vary your retrieve to change the effects to match the needs of current condition that you are fishing and I think this lure will be hot in 2019. Having a weed-less hollow body shad that will work from the heaviest cover to open water.

The Commotion Shad comes is two sizes 2.5” and 3.5”, along with two weights ½ oz. and ¾ oz. and six amazing lifelike colors: Pearl Ghost, Silver Flake, Glitter Blue Shad, Metallic Moss, Pearl Blue Shad, and Metallic Violet Shad.

EARLY SPRING FISHING TIPS – RAPALA SHADOW RAP

EARLY SPRING FISHING – RAPALA SHADOW RAP

Fishing in the early spring requires finesse and patience, suspending jerk baits like the Rapala Shadow Rap work perfectly. This bait is lightweight, dances side to side and shimmies on the suspense when all of my strikes occurred. If you are targeting cold weather fish from freezing to the spawn. In casting vicinity of the bank from a boat or the bank at 45-degree angled casts near structure will work best.  The Rapala Shadow rap will serve you fine.

This was my first trip out on Rocky Gorge Reservoir in Maryland and on my boat for 2018. Last few years was dedicated to throwing big swimbaits. Decided this day that going back to what I know was first when I found success in fishing a certain technique I would switch over to swimbaits. I judge success on catching 5 fish on one lure in a day, just like a tournament. When I hit that mark I will change things up. That has worked well for me in the past and going back to that direction for 2018.

This day started out cold and didn’t really warm up either. The water temp was 42 when I got on the water and managed to make it up to 45 by midafternoon. The air temp started at 28 and ended up getting to 50, but with the wind blowing, you could hardly tell.

As soon as I got on the water, I really wanted to throw a new swimbait. However, something told me to go for the jerk bait. 3 casts in I caught my first fish and biggest of the day, a 21 in largemouth bass. Unfortunately, for me, my scale wasn’t working so no weight. That is what I need to get me going for the rest of the day and year.

I worked that bait the rest of the day near shore and cast at 45-degree angles specifically looking for structure to locate bass in about 8-15ft of water. The last and most important part of fishing this time of year with these baits is patience. After the cast, I would pull the bait down a few feet and wait about 10 sec. Then I would pop the bait a couple time and wait at least 10sec. I repeated this over and over all day. It directly resulted in my pulling up 4 fish for the day and here are the other three below.

Early spring with super cold water, the biggest thing is to slow way down. So, when you think you are going slow enough, go slower and you should see some results.

New Fishing Focus – Custom Fishing Lures

New Fishing Focus – Custom Fishing Lures

When it comes to fishing I’m always looking for something new to call my own and do something that no one else is doing. I’m always looking for an edge and something innovative as well. In today’s fishing world the big-time pros are going to be the ones who get their hands on the latest and greatest the fishing community has to offer. The one untouched and sometimes unnoticed part of the fishing world is the custom world. Custom molded, poured, painted, shaped, or carved, the custom fishing world is where the average guy will find something new the fish in your area have yet to see or anyone else for that matter. You also have a higher chance at calling a new technique from a custom lure your own as well.

Starting in 2018, I’m going to start focusing on custom lures created by fellow anglers. Why, simple, it puts money into the hands of people like me. After starting to use big custom swimbaits, you really get better quality and craftsmanship. These lures are usually tested for quality and sometimes swimabilty before being sent out. You are not going to get that from a large manufacturer of lures. Does Rapala still hand tune and test each bait? Guess I should find out.

I’m also going to put up a page dedicated to the custom lures that I have discovered and tried as well, so you can have the same as me! Here is the link to the page thenationalangler.com/custom-fishing-lures/

So what custom lures do you make or recommend for me to try! Comment below!

Guadalupe Bass

Guadalupe Bass – Fishing the Guadalupe River

The Guadalupe Bass is another subspecies of species Black Bass. While there is several very popular species more notable know as Largemouth and Smallmouth. The Guadalupe Bass is a subspecies of the Black Bass and is only found in the Hill Country of Texas, most notably the Guadalupe River. You can find these bass spread throughout the Hill Country from San Antonio to Austin.

Here is a great web page with information from Texas Parks & Wildlife https://tpwd.texas.gov/huntwild/wild/species/gdb/

Through some research, I have found the Guadalupe bass to be quite the small ferocious fish. The Texas state record is just 3.71lbs and measured 17.25 in. The state of Texas has stated that a 12in Guadalupe Bass is a trophy fish. Recognition of the species is also very hard with the introduction of Smallmouth Bass in some of the rivers. So, finding a true Guadalupe Bass may be difficult.

Now, catching a Guadalupe Bass or just a bass in some of the Texas Hill country rivers can be difficult. One you have a limited amount of public shore access. When looking for shore access to the Hill Country rivers, go to google maps and scan the areas of the river and look for areas of green on google maps. This will designate some sort of public location. These are the areas to key in on if you do not have a boat, kayak or stand-up paddleboard.  Check out my social media articles for more information on how to use google maps and other social media tools to find fishing locations. Click Here https://www.thenationalangler.com/category/social-media-fishing/

The second part of catching bass on these rivers especially during the summer is getting away from tubers. During the extremely hot summer months, people flock to the Hill Country rivers to cool off. Well, they are everywhere and getting away from people cooling off is hard.

To be successful you need to be fishing from a boat, kayak, or stand-up paddleboard. You need to be on the river to target the fish you can’t from the shore. You need to be on one of these platforms to get to areas of the rivers with no shore access. This also gets you away from people swimming and tubing.

Let me know if you have caught a Guadalupe Bass or have any thoughts on fishing the Hill Country area for Guadalupe Bass.
